Deborah Denise Atkinson

Deborah Atkinson, affectionately known as "Deb," passed away peacefully at home on July 7, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Ethel Atkinson; her brother, Ronald Atkinson; and her sister, Shirley Patterson. She leaves to cherish her memories to her three children: Rodney, Jayda, and Ernest; seven grandchildren: Joseph, Lareal, Lovelle, Jr., Vaj, Alexis, China, Rodney, Jr., Eva, and Enarhi; and five great-grandchildren: her beloved Lacey, JaCorey, Brailynn, Jakai, and Zorian. Deborah is also survived by her siblings: Donald (Katrina), Carolyn, Donnette, Evelyn, and Wanda; her devoted partner, Willie Ray Brister; in-laws: Barbara (Keith), Terry (Alicia), and stepson Willie III (Brittany and Tre); her goddaughter Raven. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished bonus babies. A dedicated Peer Support Specialist with Merakey and a devoted member of the Saenger Theatre family, Deborah was known for her radiant smile, joyful spirit, and her gift for making everyone feel seen and loved. To know Deb was truly to love her. Family, friends, co-workers, members of Beacon Light International Baptist Cathedral, Alcee Fortier Alumni, residents of Pigeon Town and the 13th Ward, and all who were touched by her beautiful spirit are invited to Celebrate Her Life Service on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Beacon Light Cathedral, 1937 Mirabeau Avenue, New Orleans, LA for 10:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 8:00 a.m. Bishop Darryl Brister, officiating. Interment will follow at Lakelawn Cemetery, New Orleans, LA.
