Deborah Ray Costner, age 75, passed away on May 8, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her family. Deborah was born in Gaston County on May 5, 1949, to the late Jerome “Bud” Ray and Ruth Beam Ray, of Cherryville. Deborah was a special education schoolteacher for Cleveland County Schools for 43 and a half years, beginning at Washington Elementary and then spending a majority of her career at Township Three Elementary School. She loved her family and the Lord more than anything else. Deborah was a longtime member of Plains View Baptist Church. She valued time spent with her family, especially enjoying family vacations and get togethers. She was good with her hands and enjoyed making a variety of crafts.
In addition to her parents, Deborah was proceeded in death by her son, Spencer Ray, of Cherryville.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Larry Dean Coster, of Cherryville; sisters, Mickey Wilson, of Richmond, and Jill Patterson, of Rock Hill; granddaughter, Zali Grace Ray, of Cherryville; nephew, Joshua Wilkinson, of Rock Hill, his children, Anna Ray Wilkinson (Blake), of Rock Hill, Jacob Wilkinson, of Charlotte, Riley Wilkinson, of Myrtle Beach, and his grandchildren, Wyatt and Avery, of Rockhill; nieces, Heather Abrams, of Hickory, her children, Zack McHugh, of Belmont, and Chloe Abrams, of Columbia, and Laura Berkey, of Richmond, and her children, McKenzie Berkey, of Richmond, Emma Berkey, of Richmond, Katie Bosh, of San Diego, Vivian Bosh, of San Diego; and numerous cousins.
Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, May 12, 2024, at Plains View Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Key and Rev. Kevin Dover officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Carpenter-Porter Funeral Home. Burial will be private.
