In Loving Memory of Deborah Ann Ewing
1960 – 2025
With heavy hearts and abundant love, we announce the passing of Deborah Ann Ewing, who left this world peacefully on October 1, 2025, in
Fort Worth, Texas, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family. She was 65 years old.
Deborah was born on April 29, 1960, in Joplin, Missouri, to Glen and Elizabeth "Liz" Barr. Though her early years were shaped by hardship, she was blessed with a strong mother and an unbreakable bond with her brothers. Those formative years instilled in her a fierce resilience and a heart overflowing with compassion. Summers and vacations were spent surrounded by the extended Barr family, camping at Camp Fair, making memories in Branson, and laughing under the Tennessee sky at Dollywood.
A proud graduate of Lockport High School in Illinois, Deborah carried her strength and kindness into adulthood. She eventually found her calling working at Home Depot in the garden center, where she spent years bringing life to wilted plants and joy to customers who quickly became friends. Her green thumb was legendary-what others thought dead, she coaxed back to brilliant life, just as she did with the people around her.
But the greatest joy of her life was her family.
Deborah was the beloved wife and soulmate of Jimmy Ewing, with whom she shared 41 years of marriage. Their love story began in youth, blossomed over two years of dating, and officially began on August 31, 1984-the day she proposed. Together, they built a life full of laughter, love, camping trips, backyard barbecues, and crowded living rooms. Their home was more than a house-it was a sanctuary, a haven, a gathering place for family, neighbors, and any child who needed a warm meal or a listening ear.
She is survived by her devoted husband Jimmy, their children: Melissa Padgham and her husband Adrian, Jimmy Ewing and his wife Abby Meeks, and Ricky Ewing. Her proudest titles were "Mom" and "Granny." She poured her heart into her grandchildren-Natalie, Taytume, Kaydene, Brooklyn, Logan, and Danielle-each of whom she adored endlessly. Whether it was gifting them Peeps at Easter, teaching them how to fish, or simply braiding her hair when her hands could no longer do it, Deborah's love was a constant, unwavering presence in their lives.
She also leaves behind her cherished brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Frankie Barr, her "sister in love" Teri Burnett, and brother-in-love and his wife, Russ and Jackie Farris. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Elizabeth Barr, and her brothers Glen "Buddy" Barr II and Terry Barr, whose memories she held close to her heart.
A woman of deep Christian faith, Deborah was baptized eight years ago, a quiet but significant moment that reflected her enduring belief in love, grace, and second chances.
Deborah was a force of nature. A woman who loved with her whole heart and accepted everyone exactly as they were-regardless of race, orientation, nationality, or background. She believed that a bucket of chicken and a family meeting at the park could solve just about anything. Her home was a refuge to countless children, friends, and strangers who never stayed strangers for long. Her laugh-often so fierce it brought tears and the occasional accidental bathroom trip-was the soundtrack of a life well lived.
She loved oldies, old country, fishing, crafting, gardening, and holiday traditions. She made the best pumpkin pies, threw spontaneous living room dance parties, and ruled with a loving yet fierce glare that could stop teenage boys in their tracks. She delighted in the simple joys: animals, flowers, peals of laughter, and the sight of her family gathered close.
Deborah taught us all what it means to love fully, to laugh loudly, and to give without limits. She was a mother not just by blood, but by choice. A nurturer of life, both in the soil and in the souls of everyone lucky enough to know her.
A public visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 8th, from 4 PM to 7 PM at Roberts-Martinez Funeral Home Chapel, located at 4200 Denton Highway, Haltom City, Texas 76117. Family and friends are welcome to gather, remember, and celebrate the extraordinary life of a woman who touched countless hearts.
May her spirit live on in every flower that blooms, every laugh shared, and every act of kindness done in her memory.
Rest in peace, Deborah. You were deeply loved. You will be endlessly missed.
