Karen Messling-Ewing

February 8th, 1964- October 2nd, 2025

Karen Messling-Ewing, age 61, of Wauzeka WI, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones on Thursday October 2nd, 2025. She was born on February 8th, 1964, to Robert and Ruth Ann (Allan) Messling in Viroqua, WI. She was baptized and confirmed at Utica Lutheran Church. She grew up in Seneca and Mt. Sterling, WI and graduated from Seneca High School in 1982. She was married to Richard Matti, and had two children, Bryant and Brianna. She then married Logan Ewing on October 23rd, 2015, to present. Karen worked at a young age in tobacco as well as around the family home, Hungry House and Prairie Industries (both in Prairie du Chien) for most of her life. She also worked at Cabela's in Prairie du Chien, where she met Logan. The latter part of her life, she spent a lot of time taking care of the home and helping with her grandchildren. Karen's greatest joys in life were her family, her children, and her grandchildren. She and Logan loved going on car rides, always taking backroads with no destination which is where she found her favorite "cow", and laughed the rest of that day about it, and remained a memorable story they told many about. The past few years she enjoyed a newer hobby, which was going to the Smash-O-Rama at the La Crosse Speedway. She enjoyed cooking, tanning, the Green Bay Packers, watching her grandson Parker wrestle, and feeding & watching the birds. She loved riding horses in her younger years and loved all animals greatly. One of her favorite foods was lutefisk and lefse. The heartbeat of her life was her family, and she spent a lot of time with her grandchildren going on different outings and having sleepovers at Grandma's, where she would make them the best pickle roll-ups. To say she spoiled them would be a huge understatement. Karen is survived by her parents Robert and Ruth Ann Messling, Husband Logan Ewing, her children Bryant Matti and Brianna Blizard, her grandchildren Parker Bailey, Benson Blizard, and Ivy Blizard, her siblings Steve Messling, David (Penny) Messling, and Greg (Megan) Messling, and nieces Jordyn, Heather, McKenna, and Maria. Karen is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Clarence and Helen (Ronnfeldt) Allan, paternal grandparents Ernest and Cynthia (Heisz) Messling, her son-in-law Taylor Blizard, one of her childhood best friends Candy O'Connell, and her cat that she loved so much, Ruby. A special thank you to Carly and Laurie of St. Croix Hospice, her nurse & aide who were absolutely amazing and took such heartfelt care of her in her last week.

Funeral Services will be Monday, October 6th, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel in Prairie du Chien, Pastor Miranda Klosterboer officiating, with private inurnment at a later date. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service.
