Funeral Services for Deborah Joan Gibson Thornton, 71, of Butler will be held Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. from the Shady Grove Holiness Church with Rev. Joseph Futural officiating. Burial will follow in the Shady Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Deborah Thornton passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024, at Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian. She was born on October 23, 1952, in Mobile to Thearon Gibson and Doris Jacobs Preston. Ms. Thornton worked for many years as a store manager until her retirement.
She is survived by her son, Carl Freeman, Jr.; son, Steve Freeman, Sr.; brother, James Gibson; brother, Jimmy Gibson; brother, Glenn Gibson; grandchildren, Matthew Freeman, Steve Freeman, Jr., Whitney Grice, Brittany Freeman, Aaron Freeman, Austin Grice, Maranda Grice, Abby Freeman, Sarah Hopkins, Dylan Phillips, Elizabeth Freeman, and Kara Singleton; Eight Great-Grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
She is preceded in death by her husband James Edward Thornton; father, Thearon Gibson; mother, Doris Jacobs Preston; daughter, Doris Freeman; and brother, Danny Gibson.
Pallbearers include Carl Freeman, Jr., Steve Freeman, Sr., Steve Freeman, Jr., Aaron Freeman, Dewayne Hearn, Austin Grice, Matthew Freeman, and Jimmy Gibson, Jr.
