Deborah Nutter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Harmer Funeral Home on Feb. 18, 2026.
Deborah "Sissy" (Shanholtz) Nutter, 91, of Uniontown, OH, passed away on February 15, 2026. She was born in Enterprise, WV, on September 7, 1934, the daughter of the late Archie Shanholtz and Opal Miller. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by one son, Richard Nutter, and brothers Fay Shanholtz, Roy Shanholtz, and James Shanholtz.

She is survived by her husband of almost 69 years, Marvin R. Nutter, whom she married November 3, 1957. She's also survived by her children, Sonya Sowards (Michael), Beverly Clark (Duane), and Steven Nutter; grandchildren Aaron Sowards (Hollie), Catherine McElroy (John), Sarah Blackburn (Lance), and Zachary Clark (Anna); and great-grandchildren Aliyah, Ashton, Aubrie, Scarlett, Vivian, Charley, Dominic, and Lucas.

After graduating from Shinnston High School, Deborah worked as a bookkeeper at Keys Music Store in Clarksburg, WV, until she married Marvin. Deborah and Marvin lived in California, Japan, Bermuda, and Annapolis, MD, during his time in the Navy, settling back in West Virginia in 1974 upon his retirement. With her children mostly grown, Deborah began working for H&R Block before becoming an award winning realtor with Coldwell Banker. She continued working with Coldwell Banker after she and Marvin moved to Parkersburg until her retirement. She and Marvin moved to Ohio in 2001 to be close to grandchildren.

Deborah was Apostolic by faith and played the piano and accordion in many churches where she was a faithful member. She loved to paint and decorated her home with many of her paintings. She was also a talented cake decorator and produced professional quality cakes for both of her daughters' weddings and other occasions. She enjoyed ice cream, wintergreen gum, and flowers, growing zinnias nearly every year. She loved her poodles: a total of eight across 60 years.

Friends will be received at Harmer Funeral Home on Sunday, February 22, 2026 from 4:00PM-5:45PM. A funeral service will be conducted at 6:00PM with Pastor Marvin Thomas officiating. Interment will be at Shinnston Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Christian Appalachian Project at christianapp.org.
