Deborah Ann Sladky, born November 29, 1964, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2024, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Known for her sharp wit, infectious laugh, and boundless generosity, Debbie leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter.
Born in Plattsburgh, New York to Richard William Grimm and Judith (Lavalley) Grimm, Debbie was a devoted daughter, sister, and aunt. As a child, she prayed for a sibling, and her prayers were answered when her beloved sister, Jennifer, was born. Her prayers were quickly answered again a year later when her brother, Rick, was born. This early experience of wishes fulfilled perhaps sparked Debbie's lifelong habit of selflessness.
Debbie built a successful career in the mortgage industry. Her colleagues admired her intelligence, professionalism, and ability to lighten the most stressful days with her quick humor. She poured her love and energy into her extended work family.
Her determination to consistently put others before herself left a great example for her cherished niece and nephews. More than a daughter, a sister, an aunt, Debbie was a best friend, a willing shoulder to cry on, a friend to laugh with, and a confidante.
Debbie loved the theater and all things with flair. There was nothing in her world that a little sparkle could not fix. Throughout the most grueling stages of her illness, she treated herself and her loved ones like royalty with gifts and kind gestures. Her spirit could not be diminished, and she faced her diagnosis with characteristic grace and humor, often joking that she was "going out with a bang, not a whimper."
Debbie is survived by:
father, Richard (Carolyn) Grimm
mother, Judith Coryell
sister, Jennifer Lee (Thomas) Willis
brother, Richard Grimm, Jr.
niece, Elisabeth Lea Willis
nephews, Samuel Charles Willis and Richard Harris Grimm
and many aunts, uncles, and cousins
There is much to be learned from Debbie's life. She walked through the world as if to not disturb the peace of those around her and was a welcome light in the lives of those who loved and cherished her. Debbie will reside in our hearts forever, and her legacy of sprinkling a little glitter into all things will be carried on for generations.
At this time, no services for Debbie are planned.
