Deborah Jane (Duke) Thomas, 47, daughter of Bryan and Virginia Duke, went to be with the Lord on August 2, 2025. She was a lifelong resident of Monroe County, Indiana. Deborah graduated from Bloomington High School North before enlisting in the United States Army in 2008. Deborah was a decorated, 100% disabled, army veteran. While serving in Iraq, her military transport vehicle hit an IED. The devasting blast killed three soldiers, but she survived with serious injuries. Deborah separated from the service in 2013 with the rank of sergeant. She was awarded Army Achievement Medal, Valorous Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, along with other recognitions. According to her father, Deborah could work on cars, help with construction, and was always a whirlwind of activity. Like her father, they both served in the military and suffered injuries from explosive devices. Deborah survived by her father Bryan Duke, and she was preceded in death by her mother Virginia Duke, her son Dakota Douglas, her grandparents Hollis and Peggy Sparks, and her grandfather Gene Duke. Visitation will be at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory on August 25, 2025, from 10 AM to 11 AM followed by a gravesite funeral with military honors at the Knightridge Cemetery. Presiding minister will be Pastor Tom Rhodes of Knightridge Pentecostal Church. Allen Funeral Home and Crematory is handling arrangements.
