ABBEVILLE. . .Deborah Whitehead Wright, a resident of Abbeville, formerly of Dothan, passed away early Tuesday morning, September 16, 2025, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility. She was 69.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, September 18, 2025, in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, near Ashford, with Reverend Ricky Sowell officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside services. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.

Deborah Wright was born and reared in Ashford, daughter of the late James Lamar Whitehead and Mildred Paulk Whitehead. She was a graduate of Ashford Academy and attended Troy University where she received a B.S. Degree and a Masters Degree both in Education. Deborah retired from Cottonwood High School as a Reading Coach. She also formerly taught English at Cottonwood High School, Houston County High School in Columbia and Rehobeth High School. She lived most of her lifetime in Dothan before moving to the nursing home in 2023. Deborah was a member of First United Methodist Church in Dothan.

Surviving relatives include a daughter, Tiffani Wright Murphy (Matt), Abbeville; a son, Asher Lamar Wright (Carly), Ashford; a brother, Ronnie Lamar Whitehead (Lisa), Ashford; grandchildren, Aubrey Murphy, Lennon Bigbie, Avigail Wright and Gideon Pancoast; three nieces, several great-nieces and great-nephews.
