Debra Eskew Obituary

Debra Lynn Eskew, lovingly known as Debi, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, with her husband by her side. Born December 22, 1953, in Jacksonville, Florida, Debi was the daughter of J.C. and Sara Tyson and the beloved little sister of Eddie Tyson.

Debi grew up a true girly girl-frilly dresses, baton twirling, majorette boots, and cheerleading in the 1960s. She graduated from Paxon High School in Jacksonville, Florida. She was beautiful, witty, and full of life. From early on, Debi dreamed of being a mother, a dream she fulfilled wholeheartedly with great love. She got married at 19 and had four beautiful children, Jason (Chris), Joey (Erica), Amanda (Jeff) and Jacob (Lasha). Her greatest joy was raising her children, delighting in each of their personalities and accomplishments. Debi adored being a mother, teacher, and friend to them. Later, she also embraced her stepdaughters Angela (Freddy), and Kristie (Tommy), loving them and their families as her own.

Family was everything to Debi. She was blessed with 14 grandchildren- Gavin, Elliot, Olivia, Lauren, Mia, Lilly, Amelia, Kelci, Jacoby, Jayla, Kaitlynn, Paige, Alyssa, and Cooper- each of whom brought her endless happiness.

After her first marriage, Debi found a second chapter of love with her husband of 23 years, Wes Eskew. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and faith, sharing a cherished church family at Bethany Baptist. Her faith was always paramount in her life, and she loved the brethren who she considered family. Debi had to medically retire from St. Johns Co. Sheriff's office after almost 10 years of service in the corrections admin section.

Debi was known for her sharp wit, humor, and intelligence. She had a way of making people laugh and feel loved at the same time. She cherished her family deeply, including her sisters-in-law, Eve Tyson, Lisa Tavary and Lynn Fields, also her niece Tracey and nephew Edward.

In later years, Debi bravely battled Parkinson's disease, cancer and dementia with Wes by her side. She endured countless treatments and challenges including brain surgery with courage and strength always trusting in her Lord Jesus Christ. Though the disease eventually took its toll, it never defined her. She will be remembered instead as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend- someone who filled every room with laughter and love. Debi's life was a blessing to her family and friends, and her legacy of love will live on in all the lives she touched.

Debi is survived by her husband, Wes Eskew; children, Jason, Joey, Amanda and Jacob, her stepdaughters, Angela and Kristie, their extended families; 14 grandchildren; brother, Eddie; three sisters-in-law, Eve, Lynn and Lisa, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Debi was preceded in death by her parents, J.C. and Sara Tyson.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 11am at Bethany Baptist Church 5465 CR 208 St. Augustine, Fl. 32092. Reception to follow at the church.
