Debra Kinsley, 73, of Thorn Hill, Tennessee, passed away on December 3, 2025.
Born in Paris, Tennessee, Debra was the daughter of Richard Harrell Smith and Mary Frances Hicks Smith. She grew up in a close-knit community and graduated from Frayser High School in 1970. She later earned her degree from the University of Memphis's Early Childhood Education Program, a reflection of her lifelong passion for helping young minds grow.
Debra began her professional life at Cylix Corporation in Memphis, where she was admired for her steady work ethic and warm spirit. Eventually, she followed her heart into the field of education, where she became known for her compassion, patience, and ability to make every child feel seen and supported.
In the early 2000s, Debra moved to Floral Park, New York, a place she came to cherish as her adopted hometown. She built deep friendships and became a beloved presence within the community. After many meaningful years in New York, she relocated to Thorn Hill, Tennessee, settling near Knoxville for a quieter life surrounded by the hills she loved.
Debra was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Michael Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Dudley Kinsley of Floral Park, NY; her daughter, Kelley Smith of Smyrna, TN, and son-in-law, Tyler; her niece and nephew, Rebecca and Phil Suiter of Union, KY; her grandson, Elliot; and her grand-nieces Emilia and Eleanor. She leaves behind a family who adored her and countless friends and former students whose lives were brightened by her kindness.
Debra will be remembered for her generous heart, her love of learning, and her unwavering devotion to the people she held dear.
There will be a celebration of Debra's life at McEvoy Funeral Home, 507 W. Washington St., in Paris, TN, on Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, with a memorial service starting at 2:00. After the service, her ashes will be interred at Memorial Cemetery next to her parents.
