Debra Gail (Debbie) Lanham, 72, of Bowling Green, KY, passed away on April 9, 2025. Debbie touched the lives of hundreds through her career as a passionate music teacher in the Warren County Public Schools and in Americus, GA. Her influence extended through her active church music ministry, her work as a performer and accompanist for countless musicals and revues, and her ongoing support of young people by serving as a clinician or by accompanying choral competitions, solo festivals, and showcases across the state. Her passion for music was equaled only by her commitment to supporting and nurturing others.
Debbie was a proud graduate of Marion County High School in Lebanon, KY, but loved the conversational gambit of informing new friends that she was actually from Gravel Switch. She earned a BS from Western Kentucky University and an MA from Columbus State College (now University), Columbus, GA. She made lifelong friends everywhere she went, because Debbie never met a stranger. Debbie's contagious laughter and genuine interest in others impacted everyone she met.
Debbie is survived by her dearest friend, Linda Travelstead, her mother, JoAnn Lanham, two brothers--Kevin Lanham (Jan Weaver) and Rodney Lanham (Jane Manry) both of Gravel Switch, one niece--Lynn Lanham Steeves (Greg) Louisville, KY, three nephews--Michael Lanham (Joe Colombo) Ann Arbor, MI, Ryan Lanham (Jenna Watkins) Louisville, KY, Jonathan Lanham (Melinda Crecelius) Gravel Switch, KY, and 6 great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Harlie Lanham, Jr.
Funeral arrangements are handled by J. C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 14 at Broadway United Methodist Church in Bowling Green from 2:30-5:30 PM. A Memorial service will be held at 5:30 at Broadway United Methodist Church.
Marion County visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 15 from 3:00-5:00 PM at Lebanon Baptist Church in Lebanon KY.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Broadway United Methodist Church Traditional Music Program (sanctuary choir and handbells).
