Debra Lansdowne Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hughey Funeral Home on Sep. 1, 2025.
Debra Ann "Debbie" Lansdowne (Reece), age 67, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

She was born July 15, 1958, in Mount Vernon to Jerry and Margie Reece. Debbie dedicated nearly 30 years as a teacher's aide with District 80, leaving a lasting impact on many students and families. Anytime she was in public a child and/or parent would recognize her and say "hello", that always made her smile. When asked who they were her response would always be "oh I taught them, or their kids" She was also a lifelong member of Mt. Vernon Church of Christ, where she helped in the Tuesday School program.

Debbie was a devoted wife to her husband, John Lansdowne, and a loving mother to their three children: Kyle (Lindy) Lansdowne, Amanda Huntman, and Alisha (Michael) Chaudoin. Her greatest joy came from being "Mawmaw" to her beloved grandchildren: Karter, MaKenna, Kennedy, Lexi, Kyler, Kadin, and Tyson. She was also a cherished sister to Deidra (David) Parks, and is survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Margie Reece; her in-laws, Harvey and Isabel Lansdowne; her grandparents, Floyd and Betty Reece and Helen and Alfred Rogers; as well as several uncles and one aunt.

Those who knew Debbie will remember her as warm and welcoming- always opening her home to all of her children's friends, offering a safe place to hang out, laugh, and have fun. She never pushed her opinions on others but was always willing to listen and share thoughtful advice.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Mt. Vernon Church of Christ, 4304 Ilbery Rd., Mt. Vernon, IL.
