Debra Ann Newland

Debra Ann (Wiser) Newland, age 67, of Trout Lake, Michigan, died at the Hospice House of the EUP in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, on March 26, 2024. She was born on June 14, 1956, in Sault Ste. Marie, to Harold George and Rosanna Theresa (Mastaw) Wiser.
Debra grew up in Eckerman, Michigan, and graduated from Brimley High School where she accumulated many lifelong friends and stories. She met her husband Roger Martin Newland of Trout Lake at the local fish hatchery. They married, ten years later, on May 19, 1984, at the Ozark Grace Brethren Church. They built their home, raised their family, and spent the rest of their lives in the Trout Lake community.
Debra was a member of the Ozark Grace Brethren Church, the Trout Lake Women's Club, The Trout Lake Funeral Committee, Stich 'n Rippers, and the Trout Lake Election Board.
Debra was a devoted wife and mother who loved all things outdoors. She loved hunting, fishing, camping, feeding her deer, and any other animals that would come to her yard. She also loved baking and was best known for her sticky buns, pies, and wedding cakes. Her many other talents included gardening, painting, sewing, quilting, and knitting. She was a well-known, and influential member in the community. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
Debra is survived by her sons, Ben (Kaira) Newland of Alanson, Michigan, and Jon Newland of Trout Lake; grandchildren, Kinsley Newland, and Greyson Newland; sisters, Linda (Randy Holak) Wiser of Eckerman, and Cheryl (Chuck) Lamb of Marquette, Michigan; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Debra was preceded in death by her husband, Roger; parents, Harold and Rosanna; and brother, Abe Wiser.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with Funeral Services following at 1:00 PM, at Family Life Funeral Homes – St. Ignace, 999 S. State St., St. Ignace, MI 49781.
Entombment will follow at the Oaklawn Chapel Gardens in Bruce Township, Michigan.
