Debra Tanner Obituary

It is with heavily grieving hearts we announce the passing of Debra "Deb" DeAnn Tanner on October 1, 2025. Deb was born April 8, 1954, in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. She was the beloved daughter of Joan Muirhead Zimmerman (later Bochmann) and John Zimmerman and stepdaughter to Carl Bochmann, who each preceded her in their passing. Deb is survived by her devoted husband, Scott Tanner, her three sons, Derek Love, Jason Tanner, and Matt Tanner, her brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Karon Zimmerman, and her five grandchildren, Jett, Kaii, River, Jacie, and Isabelle Tanner.

Deb was warmth and comfort. She believed in summer evenings, campfires, and twinkling lights. She thrived on patio chats, her favorite pink wine, family meals, and backyard games. A woman of strong beliefs and stronger intelligence, Deb's sole focus was her family. She lived for her sons. She worried over them and took care of them every minute of their lives; obsessively listening to the scanner to make sure J was ok; researching everything under the sun to keep Matt healthy and thriving, and absolutely pining for the next moment she got to see Derek. To Stefanie Tanner, Stephanie Riley, Brianna Tanner, and Caitlin Tanner, she was more than just a mother-in-law; she embraced them with her full self, teaching them that her welcome would never run out, and her love did not just extend to them but enveloped them individually. When she was blessed with grandchildren, Deb's heart only grew. There are no luckier grandkids than Deb's. Dubbed Grandma Beautiful, Deb helped raise every one of them with her tight hugs, trips to KMart and Perkins, and absolute adoration for each one of them.

Deb was a free spirit; she believed in the power of nature. She valued loyalty, giving, and authenticity. She loved music, all of it, everything from Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud" to Flo Rida's "Welcome to My House" to Al Green's "Let's Stay Together". When she and Scott would dance together, it was like watching ribbons in the wind, so in tune, and so happy.

Deb had an amazing sense of humor and a beautiful laugh! She was kind, generous, and compassionate. She was fiercely independent and private, but never said no to a friend. She loved her entire family. She worried about them, rooted for them, protected them, forgave them, and always kept on loving them. She was excessively patient, even when playing lip-reading games, and some people could not stop laughing to get the clues out. She was adventurous, standing on the bow of a boat, just waiting to jump off with the grandkids. She was funny, swatting at the Walmart beetles while they pinged off the walls. She dressed up for every theme party, event, and outing she was invited to, and had a ball at every one. She was fun. She was a safe haven. She was peace.

Deb will be desperately missed by all those she's left behind. Our hearts are so broken by this loss. She was one of a kind and to be loved by Deb was to be truly blessed. A celebration of life will be held for Deb at Grace Place in Berthoud, CO on Tuesday, November 4th, 2025 at 2:00PM.
