Dedra J. Roberts, 78, passed away on September 19th, 2025 in Bluffton, South Carolina surrounded by love and family.
Born in Albany and raised in Watervliet and Latham, she was the daughter of a beautician and a World War II veteran who served bravely at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. As a young woman, she volunteered as a candy striper in the emergency room at Albany Memorial Hospital - an early reflection of her caring and kind nature. She later graduated from Albany Business College and worked as a confidential secretary with the State of New York, Supreme Court Appellate Division, Third Judicial Department.
She met her future husband through the Elks Club, and they spent over 49 years devoted to each other, raising their children and creating a loving family. A beloved mother, she was always there for her children - from late nights talking and eating popcorn together to being present for every milestone, big and small. Her love was unconditional.
She found joy in arts and crafts, including miniatures, knitting, and beading. For decades, she was an active member of N.A.M.E. (the National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts) and even turned her passion into her own miniature business, Every Little Detail. She also had a love for genealogy research and exploring history, as well as for computers - always eager to learn new research tools. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling, and in her later years, playing golf with her husband and Mahjong with friends.
Some of her favorite memories included RV camping with family in the Adirondacks, trips to Florida & Ireland with her husband, Disney with her grandkids, and London & Paris with her daughter.
She is survived by her children, Julia, Andrew (Christine), and Chris; her grandchildren, Emma, Matthew, Jonathan and Timothy; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and other extended family members. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas C. Roberts, Sr.
A funeral service will be held at Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, New York, where Dedra will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Thomas, with his Military Funeral Honors.
