On November 7, 2025, the music dimmed and the kitchen closed for David Dewayne Rossum, affectionately known to all who loved him as Dee Dee. His spirit, a unique blend of nurturing kindness and vibrant melody, was welcomed into eternal rest in Houston, Texas.
Born in the oil-boom air of Kilgore, Texas on August 22, 1971, to Mack and Pearlie Lee Rossum, Dee Dee quickly developed a heart that swelled with care and creativity. After earning his diploma from Kilgore High in 1990 and furthering his education at Kilgore College (1991) and Tyler Junior College (1992), he found his true calling: tending to others.
As a dedicated Patient Care Assistant at Shaunty Healing Center, Dee Dee didn't just provide care; he offered comfort, dignity, and a loving hand to elderly adults with special needs and children alike. He poured his immense spirit into this work, but his greatest art was practiced at home.
Dubbed "Chef De Rossum" by his adoring sister, Dee Dee wielded a skillet with the same passion he brought to every other aspect of life. He created food that nourished the soul, and his presence was the special ingredient that made every gathering sweeter. When he wasn't cooking, he was filling the house with song, listening to music, enthusiastically advocating for a good workout, and most importantly, investing his love in his family. His most cherished audience included his mother, Pearlie Mae, and his beloved great-nephews, Kingston, Josiah, and Anthony III.
Dee Dee has reunited in eternal love with his father, Mack Rossum; his grandmother, Lillie Mae Lee; Aunts Dorothy Nell Williams and Annie Fuller; Uncles, Ralph Fuller, Burnett "Pop" Rossum, Shelby Rossum; and his sister-in-law, Shannon Rossum.
His memory, like a favorite song on repeat, will be cherished forever by his devoted mother, Pearlie Mae Lee – Rossum; his siblings, Michael Rossum Sr. (Pearland, TX) and Shcrenna Bircher (Houston, TX). His legacy of love and laughter will be eternally cherished by his nieces and nephews, who knew him as their loving, fun-filled uncle: Charisse "Toot" Rossum, Kijana "Kiki" Rossum, Sabaya "Tweety" Bircher, Antoinette "Tone" Bircher, Anthony "A.J" Bircher Jr, Michael "Mikey" Rossum Jr, and Joseph "Mack" Rossum.
His legacy of warmth is carried forward by a joyful constellation of great-nieces and great-nephews and uncle: Joe Rossum, Delany, Iyanna, Romondo, Armani, De'Armon, Ariel, Romari, and Isaiah in Houston; Kingston, Lillie, Kali, Rylee, and Anthony III in Tyler; and Josiah in Bedford.
He will be deeply missed by close family and other beloved friends: Ya' Vonne Trimble, Lynn Covin, Raymond French, D'Angelo Johnson, LaTriece Lester, Rayshawn Taylor, Megan Freeman, Margo Woods, Angela Rossum, Sandra K Dudley, Louvenia Johnson and Jane Daniels along with many other relatives and friends.
