Norman Dewayne Griffin “Dee”, 64, of Blackfoot, passed away on August 24, 2024 at Portneuf Medical Center.

Dee was born June 30, 1960 the second child to Nedra Davis and Norman Dean Griffin. He was greeted by his big sister and built-in best friend Nancy, and later welcomed his beloved little sister Brenda. Dee grew up very close with his Grandma and Grandpa Davis and his Grandma and Gramps Griffin as well as his uncles, aunts, and cousins on both sides. Regardless of where he lived, Dee always called the Woodville area “home” and treasured the memories and relationships he had growing up there.

Dee attended High School in Idaho Falls before joining the National Guard. Following in his father’s footsteps, he worked at French’s/Pillsbury for 17 years, before he took a leap of faith and pursued his childhood dream of driving truck. He loved driving and was proud to have driven coast-to-coast and visited nearly all of the continental United States in his years driving long haul. When he had to come off the road for medical reasons, he completed his GED and worked at Idaho Pacific for several years, until he was again called back to his true love: trucking. Dee spent the last 19 years driving for Idaho Asphalt/Johnny B Trucking and making countless memories and enduring friendships.

Second to his sheer stubbornness, Dee was known for his sense of humor and contagious laughter. He had a way with words whether through writing or his hilarious one-liners. Beneath his tough exterior, he was as giving and as caring as they come. He was generous with his time and money and would, quite literally, give the shirt off his back to help someone in need. He enjoyed spending time with his family and made it a point to go “all out” for special occasions.

His girls, niece and nephew have fond memories of building his massive train set, playing Kick the Can, bowling, racing go-carts, and cruising in his ‘67 Bonneville to get ice cream. While his hobbies have changed over time, Dee's love for coffee, old cars (the bigger the better), crab legs, Griffins and eagles, country music, fishing, ice cream and old westerns have remained constant. In recent years, he discovered the simple joys of an electric blanket and comfy slippers.

Confident in his personal relationship with God, Dee spoke of his sense of peace in knowing that a happy reunion with his Mom Nedra (Davis) Taggart, Dad Norman Griffin, sister Brenda Mills, and many other loved ones would await him upon his passing. He is survived by his sister Nancy (Mike) Sasinouski; children Burgundy Bronson, Krista (Nathan) Christensen, Shauna Griffin, Jessica Medrano, and Amanda Johnson; grandchildren, niece Megan Sasinouski, nephew Jody (Jenesa) Sasinouski, and brother-in-law David Kerr. He will be sorely missed as a beloved father, “Gramps”, brother, uncle, and friend.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 West Oak Street, in Shelley. The family will receive friends for 30 minutes prior to the services.
