Del Eugene Moore, 82, of Blacksburg, Virginia, passed away on July 22, 2024. He was born on May 29, 1942, in Alton, Illinois. He is preceded in death by his mother, Marion Moore and father Raymond Mock. He is survived by his wife, five children and their spouses, along with seven grandchildren. Del grew up in Fort Worth, Texas. As a youth he was an avid Boy Scout, eventually achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. During those years he developed a love for rock-climbing which he enjoyed throughout his life. In 1966, Del graduated from St. Louis University with a degree in chemistry. He later completed his graduate program at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Del worked for many years as a research food chemist for several companies, including Durkee Foods and Nabisco. He also had a love for computer programming and in his spare time taught himself how to write database applications. His hobbies included playing chess, tennis, reading and photography. He was often occupied with home improvement projects or found working in the garage on the family's cars. He appreciated a variety of music, especially classical composers. Del enjoyed cooking, and as a good food chemist, made sure any great recipe was well documented. He lived throughout the United States, including Illinois, New York, New Jersey, Ohio and Washington state. He often recounted the beauty of the Pacific Northwest's astounding landscapes, which were to him unparalleled.
