Delbert Virgil Dethrow

Delbert Virgil Dethrow, 95, of Sparta, IL; born on July 3, 1930 in Ellis Grove, IL, the son of William Virgil and Laura (née, Bendorf) Dethrow; passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at Sparta Community Hospital.
Delbert was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving during the Korean War. When he returned from the service, Delbert became a commercial truck driver. He worked for Gilster-Mary Lee, where he became the fleet manager. He started with a small fleet of trucks, delivering all types of produce. Delbert enjoyed his job so much; he worked his entire life, up to the days before his passing. Delbert also enjoyed working on projects with his property and making trips to Mississippi to quail hunt.
Delbert is survived by his loving wife – Barbara (née, Robertson) Dethrow of Sparta, IL to whom he married in January of 1959; four children – Donald (wife, Denise) Dethrow of Sparta, IL, Kim (husband, Joe) Gross of Chester, IL, Charles Dethrow of Sparta, IL, and Kerri (life partner, Matt Bowen) Dethrow of Sparta, IL; seven grandchildren – Dustin (wife, Lindsey) Dethrow, Drew (wife, Hannah) Dethrow, Megan (husband, Steve) Eggers, Nicholas Jones, Kristin Dethrow, Holli Dethrow, and Gabriella Dethrow-Estrada; eleven great grandchildren; one brother – Kenneth (wife, Janet) Fudge of Steeleville, IL; one sister – Patricia Grah of Chester, IL; friend of the family, Don Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers – Kevin Fudge and Richard Dethrow; six sisters – June Combs, Marlene Narragon, Darlene Runge, Claudette James, Glynda Duvall, and Linda Hindman.

Delbert recently celebrated his 95th birthday surrounded by his loving family and friends. It was his wish to be cremated with no services.
