Delbert Dietz, 73, of Corpus Christi, TX, died Wednesday, October 8, 2025, in Corpus Christi.
A Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, October 17 at the Orleans Cemetery in Orléans, NE. A visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel on Friday, October 17 in Gothenburg NE from 10:00-11:30 AM. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.
Delbert was born July 25, 1952 in Holdrege NE. He was the fourth child of five born to Paul and Lola (Howsden) Dietz. He graduated from Gothenburg, Nebraska in 1971. After graduation he attended Kearney State College on a track scholarship and played basketball on the freshman team. He also attended mortuary school in San Antonio TX where he earned a degree in mortuary science. He worked in the mortuary business for many years. Lately he had worked as a longshoreman on the docks of Corpus Christi.
In 1983 he moved to Corpus Christi where he lived most of his life. He was married to Debra Mckenzie to which they had two boys, Paul and Justin. Delbert and Debra later divorced. Delbert loved Nebraska but hated the cold winters so he spent his years in South Texas. Delbert was an avid runner, running in numerous marathons around the US. In the summer of 1975 he rode his bicycle to Los Angeles to stay with a friend for the summer. The following year he rode his bicycle to Montreal Canada to attend the opening ceremonies of the summer Olympics.
He is survived by his children; Paul and Justin of Corpus Christi. Brother Paul Dietz (Linda) of Lincoln; brother Larry Dietz (Sandie) of Fort Collins CO; Sister Rita Thomalla of Gothenburg NE and brother Carl Dietz (Carol) of Kearney NE. along with many nieces and nephews.
