It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Delbert Sing Wong Jr., aka Del, on June 9th, 2023, just shy of his 75th birthday. Del was born in
Brawley, CA, on September 1, 1948, to Delbert Sr. and Asusena Tapia. He grew up to be a loyal, reliable, smart, and creative man who never missed an opportunity to tell a story or lend a hand. Del was the kind of guy you wanted on your trivia team, especially if the questions involved airplanes or computers. Del married his lovely wife, Jean, on April 24, 1971 in the Oakland Temple, and they built a life together in California and
Ogden, Utah, where Delbert worked as a P.M.E.L. Specialist at Hill Air Force Base. He was known far and wide as the "Go-To" guy for repairs and advice. When he wasn't watching old episodes of Star Trek, he was tinkering with model air planes, playing video games or spending time with his family. The man was a true Renaissance man, always staying busy with his many hobbies and interests. Del was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission as a young man to the Peru Lima Mission. He held various positions within the church, such as Sunday School President and teacher, emergency preparedness specialist, ward clerk, and even enjoyed teaching primary with his wife Jean. Delbert was also a proud member of a model airplane flying club and recipient of the Air Force Commendation Award during his service in the U.S. Air Force. Del is survived by his wife, Jean, four daughters, Brenna (Terry) Isola, Angela (Aethan) Reese, Cynthia (Ray) Griffith, Dionna (Austin) Mestas, and his son, Aaron (Rebecca) Wong, 16 grandchildren and one great-grandson with another on the way. He is also survived by his mother, Asusena Tapia Wong and his siblings, Vivian (Mike) Storz, Randy (Christi) Wong, Chester Wong, Lorraine Wong and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Delbert Sr. Del will forever be remembered for his story telling, humor, intelligence, and unwavering dedication to his family. We invite you to leave your memories of Del to the memorial page at www.myers-mortuary.com to continue cherishing the laughter and love he brought into our lives. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, July 5th at 11 am at the Reflection Pond at Evergreen Memorial Park, 100 Monroe Blvd.
