Vickie Harkness Obituary

Visit the Myers Mortuary & Cremation Services - Ogden website to view the full obituary.
A valiant servant of God and our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, Vickie Lynne Saunders Harkness, slipped quietly through this earthly veil on the morning of Thursday, October 30, 2025. She had just celebrated her 69th birthday.

Born in Ogden, Utah on October 28, 1956 to Glen and Marvetta Saunders, Vickie was the oldest of nine children. She was raised in Clinton, attending Clinton Elementary, Sunset Jr. High, and Clearfield High School, graduating in 1974. While attending Weber State College, Vickie met Grant Harkness, her perfect match. They were married on April 29, 1976 in the Salt Lake Temple and were blessed with five children, thirteen grandchildren and three step-grandchildren. Grant has been a dedicated caregiver to Vickie as she has battled the effects of Multiple Sclerosis for the past 40 years.

It was clear from the time she was a toddler that Vickie was blessed with the gift of music, learning both the piano and organ at a young age. As a little girl, she began performing with her family, often playing organ and piano duets with her mother and singing with her father and siblings. Together, Vickie and Grant instilled a love of music in each of their children and often performed with them as well. She also shared her gift through teaching, accompanying, and composing hundreds of songs, many of which have been published. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, most of which were related to music. She loved her Savior and trusted in our Heavenly Father's plan for her as she endured life's trials. Her testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ was unwavering!

She loved Autumn drives, creating Easter Egg hunts, and gathering for special Family Home Evenings. She also loved the annual Christmas advent calendar where each day in December brought a new adventure from making a craft or candy to playing in the snow. She looked forward to having her Halloween and Christmas villages set up each year, and her Christmas tree remained up all year long. These things brought her joy! Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her family. She fought with all of her might to live, determined to watch her children and grandchildren grow.

Vickie is survived by her devoted husband, Grant, and their children and grandchildren Jennifer Harkness, Russell & Emily Harkness (Bennett, Mylie, Coy, Nora, & Milo); Will & Kristin Harkness (Kaydence, Brennan, Brecken, & Khloe); Steven & Lynnette Harkness (Abby, Ruby, & Naomi); and Mary & Justin Humphries (Eric, Anna, & Jaida). She is also survived by her loving parents and her siblings Craig (Lana), Scott (Carolyn), Maureen (David), Curtis (Patty), Jeannie, Lorilee (Chris), Thomas (Janine) & James (Bridgette), along with many extended family members and friends who will miss her deeply.

We have no doubt that loved ones were greeting her with open arms on the other side of the veil, including her precious granddaughter, Kailyne Grace Harkness; her grandparents, Ed & Marcia Saunders and Newel & Alice Gailey; and Grant's parents, Russell & Elaine Harkness.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at the Stake Center, 770 East 2100 North, Ogden, Utah from 6-8 pm. A second viewing will take place on Monday, November 10, 2025, from 9:30-10:30 am at the Stake Center, immediately followed by the funeral services at 11 am.
