It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Delia Trujillo from El Rancho, NM, on October 20, 2024, at the age of 98. Delia was known for her warm spirit, fun loving attitude and her unwavering love for her family. As a role model, mom held herself in high standards but expected others to follow their own path, even if that path didn’t include her. Mom was and is at peace with her life and will be desperately missed.
Delia is preceded in death by her parents, Antonio & Senovia Roybal, in-laws Celestino & Emiliana Trujillo, husband Narciso Trujillo, daughter Lorraine Atencio, granddaughter Jessica Sandoval, nephew Bobby (Robert) Trujillo, very special friend and companion Floyd Silva, son-in-law Rick Smith, her brother and 6 sisters of which Delia was the youngest. May they all rest in peace. Delia is survived by daughters Arlene (Leroy) Lopez & Jeannette Smith, son-in-law Ted Atencio and her special nephew, Jimmie Tabor, 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by Christella Neal & Diana Martinez.
Mom was a very special person who was loved by everyone who knew her. Mom leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, strength and forgiveness. When mom was at the end of her life and was praying her rosary along with Arlene and Jeannette at her side, she prayed for everyone after her rosary before praying for herself. This was the kind of person mom was and what we should all aspire to be. Mom loved to cook and her red chili, natillas & panocha were the very best. This is not to say that she didn’t enjoy eating out as this was one of her favorite things to do. Delia graduated from Pojoaque High School before marrying Narciso where they raised 5 daughters and 5 of their grandchildren. Delia was very active with the El Rancho & Nambe Pueblo Senior Centers.
Mom’s Life will be Celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Pojoaque, NM, on Thursday, October 31, 2024, with a Viewing at 8:30 am, followed by the Rosary at 9:00 am and Mass at 10:00 am.
Delia will be interned with her husband at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Friday, November 1, 2024, at 11:00 am.
Readers for the mass will be Vanessa Lopez, Rene Lopez and Kathy Atencio. Reception to follow mass at the parish hall (outside food is prohibited).
Pallbearers are Christian Lopez, Joshua Atencio, Tyrus Smith, Jassen Lopez, Lilyana Lopez and Dominic Haupt. Honorary pallbearers are Ted Atencio, Jimmie Tabor, Sheri Lopez, Alesha Lopez, Sal, Julianna & Lucia Atencio, Juliana & Naomi Smith, Dizirah Yslas, Jonah Montoya and Amaya Lopez. The family would like to thank her grandson, Tyrus Smith, for taking such good care of mom and making her so happy during her time of need.
Special thanks to Vallee Rose and Miquela Sanchez who always checked in on mom. Thank you to the staff at Hospice de la Luz in Albuquerque. Mom was a very generous person. She requested donations be made in her memory to St. Jude’s’s Children’s Hospital.
