Della Lou Cantrell

Della Lou Cantrell, 77, of Varney, WV, went home to be with her Lord on November 12, 2025, while a patient at Pikeville Medical Center. She was born on January 25, 1948, to the late Bill and Mary Lou (Harmon) Varney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. Paul Horton, and her brother, Jimmy Dale Varney.
Della dedicated nearly 40 years of service as an LPN at the Appalachian Regional Hospital, spending most of her career in pediatrics with Dr. Mary and Dr. Chuck. A lifelong member of the Pie Church of God, she faithfully served in many capacities within her church community. Della had a love for traveling, shopping, and reading her Bible, finding joy and peace in each of these pursuits.
She is survived by her loving husband, John Cantrell; her son, Jonathan Horton, and his wife, Brittany; brothers, Danny (Janet) Varney and Bill (Mary) Varney; sister-in-law, Dianna Varney; and her beloved grandchildren, Brently Horton and Ava Lester. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Mary Cassell for her steadfast friendship and care.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the Pie Church of God in Pie, WV, with Rev. Brian Wellman and Rev. Mitchell Bias officiating. Burial will follow in the Harmon Cemetery at Varney, WV. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., with services beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearer will be David Varney, whom Della loved as her own son.
