Delores Gordon Copps was called home after a sudden illness on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at the age of 80.
Delores was the only child of Sam Henry Gordon, Sr. and Faye Anna Burns. Delores grew up in Jacksonville, Florida attending Andrew Jackson High School. Delores met her husband, Alton Brooks Copps, Jr, while working at G. C. Murphy Company and they enjoyed 62 years together. Delores was a loving Mother and took time to raise her children for many years. Delores' later work experience included Data Entry, Special Needs Teacher's Aide and Secretarial positions. Delores retired and set her focus once again on her Family and those around her.
Delores' primary concern was always others. She had a kind and encouraging word for everyone she met often asking their name and offering to pray for them. The evidence of the love she invested is expressed in every life she touched. Delores' faith in Jesus was rooted in the church experiences she had while staying with her Maternal (Baptist) or Paternal Grandmother (Pentecostal/Holiness). Both Grandmother's instilled in her a love of God and others. If sending greeting cards can be considered a hobby, then that was one of her passions. She loved selecting just the right card for the person and the occasion. Delores also was a steadfast friend maintaining long-distance and long-term relationships.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents Sam Henry Gordon and Faye Anna Burns; sisters-in-law Frances C. Jones and Margaret Copps. She is survived by her husband Brooks; her daughters Laurie Copps, Holley Priger (Kevin) and Heather Verrier; her Grandchildren Kaelin Priger, Emma Priger, Sam Verrier and Charlie Verrier. She is also survived by her brothers John Wilkes, Sam Henry Gordon, Jr.; sisters Alana Nemeth, Pamela Rand, and Patricia MacDonald. Surviving sisters-in-law are Ann Bonfigli and Cathy Hillis.
