Demetrio Rubio Jr

Demetrio Rubio Jr, 87, of Amarillo, passed peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on January 21, 2024.
Mr Rubio will be in state on Thursday, January 25, 2024, from 10 am to 6 pm for viewing and again on Friday, January 26, 2024, at 8 am. Rosary will be said at 6 pm on Friday evening at St Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 4100 S. Coulter. A prayer vigil will follow the Rosary. Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 10 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Father John Valdez presiding. Burial will take place in Llano Cemetery East.
Demetrio was born February 4, 1936, in Alice, Texas, to his parents, Demetrio Rubio Sr. and Isabel. On May 1, 1953, he married Juanita Coronado in Alice, Texas. He was a farmer until 1985 when he moved to Amarillo and began working for the Diocese of Amarillo in maintenance for 17 years. He retired in 2002 and went to work at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church for 2 years as a custodian.
He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed joking around with family. He was a Dallas Cowboys fan and liked to "tinker and peddle".
Rubio is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Pedro Rubio; three daughters, Margarita, Ursula, and Isabele; a son, Robert; sons-in-law, Leo B. Ramos and Casiano Ruiz Sr.; a grandson, Andrew Saldana; four great-grandsons, Joe Angel, Isaiah Ruiz, Keegan Ramos and Raiden Ramos.
Rubio is survived by his wife, Juanita; daughters, Belen Ramos and Maria Johnson and husband, Donnie, all of Amarillo; sons, Pedro Rubio and wife, Dolores of Waco, TX, and Demetrio Rubio III and wife, Sandra of Amarillo. He had twenty-five grandchildren, sixty-four great-grandchildren, and twenty-one great-great-grandchildren.
