Cimarron - Denice (DeeDee) Lea Woods Cragg passed away peacefully at her home in Cimarron, Kansas, surrounded by her loving family on April 26, 2025. She was born on December 11, 1958, in Dodge City, Kansas, the daughter of Virgil "Butch" and Karlene (Steinkuehler) Woods.
On May 31, 1997, she married her best friend and soulmate, Gene Cragg. He survives.
A lifelong resident of southwest Kansas, Denice made her home and left her mark in Cimarron and the surrounding communities. She dedicated her life to caring for others, both professionally and personally. As a healthcare professional, Denice served as a nurse and director for several area nursing homes-including the Shepherd's Center in Cimarron, Sun Porch in Dodge City, and Fowler Residential Care-as well as various county health departments. At the time of her passing, she was serving as Administrator of the Gray County Health Department.
Denice was deeply family-oriented and poured her heart into those she loved. She adored her daughter, Genice, and embraced motherhood with unwavering devotion and joy. She cherished family gatherings, large or small, and lit up every room with her laughter and warmth. As "Aunt DeeDee," she doted on her nieces and nephews, celebrating every milestone and sharing in their lives with genuine pride and affection.
She had a heart so big it touched everyone who knew her. Denice was truly one of a kind-loving, generous, spirited-and she will be missed beyond words.
Denice is survived by her husband, Gene Cragg of Cimarron, KS; her daughter, Genice Cragg of Cimarron, KS and her boyfriend, Dylan Frasier of Cawker City, KS; her stepson, Chase Cragg and wife Itzel of Dodge City, KS; step-father, Jerry Koehn of Cimarron, KS; three brothers, Rick Woods and wife Judy, Trent Woods and wife Sherri, all of Cimarron, KS, and Todd Woods and wife Traci of Dodge City, KS; sister-in-law Patty Woods of Cimarron, KS; brothers-in-law, Gary Cragg and wife Connie, and John Cragg and wife Tonya of Topeka, KS; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Merle and JoAnn Cragg; her brother, David Woods; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Cragg Sanchez.
We'll carry her spirit with us, always-a gentle presence in everything we do.
Funeral service will be held at Cimarron Christian Church on Saturday May 3, 2025 at 10:00 AM with Pastor David Johnson presiding. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Cimarron on Friday May 2, 2025 from 1:00 to 8:00 PM.
