Dennis was born on June 5, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan to Donald and Shirley (née Probst) Carpenter. He was a 1965 graduate of Lakeshore High School in St. Clair Shores before enlisting in the United States Army where he served during the Vietnam War on both foreign and United States soil. Dennis was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam SVC Medal and Good Conduct Medal during his time in the service. When he returned, Dennis finished his associates degree through Macomb Community College and also obtained many certifications over the years. He worked in the heating & cooling industry before his health forced him into an early retirement in 1990. Dennis was a member of the Heating & Frost Union-Local 25 and of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Macomb Township. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, volunteering at local hospitals and spending time with his family. Dennis was the best Papa and never missed an opportunity to show his grandchildren how much he loved and supported them in everything they were a part of. He was a wonderful man and loved by many. Dennis will be greatly missed by his loving family and all who knew him.
Dennis is survived by his children, Dawn (Michael) Bettcher and Dennis Carpenter II; grandchildren, Brandon (Taylor) Bettcher, Diana (Matt) Wooldridge, Alyssa (Brendan) Schwark and Julia Carpenter; great-granddaughter, Raegan Bettcher; sister, Susan (John) Welchko; nephews, Shaun (Kelly) Welchko and Ryan Welchko; great niece and nephews, Katelyn and Conner Welchko; former wife, Joan Carpenter; and many friends. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Shirley Carpenter.
Visitation for Dennis will take place on Friday, October 3, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hauss-Modetz Funeral Home, 47477 Romeo Plank, Macomb. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with an instate time of 10:00 a.m. and military honors to follow the service at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 17051 24 Mile Road, Macomb. Dennis will be laid to rest in a private burial at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East Cemetery, Clinton Township.
Memorial contributions would be appreciated to St. Peter Lutheran Seminar Fund or The St. Peter Lutheran Building Together Campaign.
