Dennis Eugene Crytzer, 78, of Greenville (West Salem Township), passed on Sept. 6, 2025 at his home. A decorated marksman and U.S. Army veteran of the 9th Infantry Division, he served in Vietnam from April 1966-68. Dennis was awarded the National Defense Service medal, Good Conduct Medal First Award, Vietnam Service medal, and the Vietnam Campaign medal.
Born to great fanfare as the first baby of the year in Warren, Ohio on Jan. 1, 1947 – clocking in only 45 seconds after the new year – Dennis was a graduate of Howland High School. He worked at Packard Electric for 32 years before retirement. A loving father and grandfather, he enjoyed spending time on his Harley, tinkering with vintage cars, and had a soft spot for animals – especially his beloved labradors and the various stray cats that seemed drawn to him.
He is survived by wife Karen (McLaughlin) of Greenville; daughters Shannon (Crytzer) Hentzel of Greenville and Melissa Crytzer Fry (Steve) of Mammoth, Ariz.; grandson Tyler Hentzel of Greenville; and brother Robert (Cindie) of Champion, Ohio.
Preceded in death were parents Donald and Grace (Monroe) Crytzer of Warren, Ohio; and niece Cassie Crytzer Wheelock of Champion, Ohio.
Per Dennis's request, no funeral service is planned. His last wish was for his ashes to rest among the rugged beauty of the Sonoran Desert (Arizona) near the saguaro-studded Galiuro Mountains, a place he cherished when visiting, and where he enjoyed riding his Harley into the sunset. May you ride on in peace.
