Dennis Frank Dutra Jr., 53, of
Nokomis, Florida, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2025. Born on May 27, 1972,
Providence, Rhode Island, Dennis lived a life marked by resilience, humor, and a deeply compassionate heart.
Dennis is predeceased by his father, Dennis Dutra. He is survived by his mother, Sandra Tiodor, and stepfather, Robert Tiodor; his sisters Cheryl Rothwell (David Rothwell), Amanda Tumminelli (Adam Tumminelli), and Dana Dutra; his step siblings Rongina McClelland (Walter McClelland), Robert Marabel (Moriah Marabel), Tressa Tiodor, James Brice, Anita Roberson (Kenya Roberson); his daughter, Madalyn Dutra; and his two grandsons, Cyrus and Eziah Dutra. He is also lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews, as well as a wide circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He has lived in Florida for 6 years, previously living in East Providence.
Dennis was exceptionally intelligent, quick-witted, and unforgettable in conversation. His sense of humor-sometimes crude, often sharp, and always intentional-was part of his charm. He had a way of making people laugh when they least expected it and helping them feel seen when they needed it most.
While Dennis faced significant challenges in his life, he also experienced profound growth and transformation. He spent many meaningful years in recovery, dedicating himself to helping others navigate the same path. Through both work and volunteer service in the recovery community, Dennis offered understanding without judgment and support rooted in lived experience. His impact on others will not be forgotten.
Above all, Dennis was kind-hearted and deeply compassionate, especially toward animals. He shared a special bond with his dog, Athena, who was rarely far from his side and who misses him dearly. Dennis was known for stopping to help turtles safely cross the road, never rushing past a creature in need. He also found joy in sharing beauty with others, often posting photos of flowers he discovered to uplift family and friends and bring a moment of light to their day.
Dennis will be remembered for the strength it took to keep going, the people he helped along the way, and the love he had for his family. His life touched many in lasting ways, and he will be deeply missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visiting hours on Saturday, January 24,2026 from 11:00am-12:30pm in the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME,901 Broadway,
