Obituary of Dennis George Edwards

Dennis George Edwards departed this life on May 31st, 2024, at the age of 68.
A native of Jamaica, West Indies, Dennis was born on October 16th, 1955, to the late Alexander George Edwards and Albertine Edwards. As a youngster, he attended Allman Town Primary School and later completed his junior secondary education at Senior School in the parish of Kingston.
On August 12, 1972, Dennis immigrated to the United States of America with his siblings and resided in Westfield, New Jersey. There, he attended Westfield High School. After high school, he held a variety of jobs. However, he was a gifted craftsman and later earned his living making shoes, hats, belts, bracelets, chains, and purses. Although circumstances were not always favorable to Dennis, he was not hardened by the many adversities he had to overcome. He displayed love, kindness, and concern for others.
From a child, Dennis was fearless, daring to do things others would not. Although small in stature, he had the heart of a lion. He was a fighter and defender of the weak, always willing to help the vulnerable at the risk of his own life.
Although a permanent resident of the United States, Dennis carried his homeland of Jamaica in his heart. In May of 2002, he returned to Jamaica and resided among family members in the district of Brainerd, located in the parish of Saint Mary. Family meant a lot to him. He remembered the birthdays of many family members and would always call to say, 'Happy Birthday. '
A lover of reggae music, Dennis could be heard singing and playing the music almost nonstop. This was his escape from the hustle and bustle of life. However, make no mistake, he was deeply spiritual. Alone, he could be found reading the Bible and meditating on God's word. He also regularly attended church and professed faith in Jesus Christ. So, we bid him farewell and say, rest well until we meet again.
Dennis is survived by his son, Kwame Edwards, and his siblings, Marcia, Maria, Monica (Pam), Glenford, Annette (Marie), Andrea, Paul, and Georgette. He also leaves behind a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A memorial visitation will be held in his memory on Friday, May 9th, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung, NJ. He will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery, 1100 East Broad Street, Westfield, NJ.
