Dennis Guy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors - Clawson on Jan. 28, 2026.
Dennis Cameron Guy "Denny" passed away peacefully on January 24th, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was 81 years old. Denny was born August 23, 1944, in Detroit, MI. to the late Robert and Helen (Dreisbach) Guy.

Dennis was a devoted husband to his wife Kathy (Kangas) Guy, who he cherished deeply. In the 53 years they were married they built a beautiful life together.

Family meant the most to Dennis. He was a loving father to Dennis "Ed" Guy (Nicole), Wendy Brewster (Bill), Amy Kreucher (Ray), and Kelly Thornton (Mike). He took even greater pride in the role of papa to Alexis, Cameron, Aiden, Madison, Raymond, Gavin, Audrey and Charlotte.

He is preceded in death by his older sister Linda Lohrengel (Guy) (the late Fred Lohrengel). He is survived by his younger sister Barbara Herzog (Guy) (the late Duke Herzog), sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, & friends.

Dennis was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He enlisted in 1965 and his tour of duty led him to Vietnam and Hawaii. He achieved the rank of Sergeant before his honorable discharge in 1969. He then became a police officer for the city of Clawson, MI for 32 years, retiring as a Lieutenant in 2002.

During retirement Dennis took on part-time jobs to keep busy, one that he truly enjoyed was delivering floral arrangements. He enjoyed connecting with people and bringing them joy with each delivery.

Family meant everything to him. He supported and celebrated his kids' activities. He loved coaching, leading and volunteering for cub scouts, softball, basketball, marching band and winter guard. He then enjoyed cheering for his grandkids in their many activities. It brought him so much joy that he rarely missed an event.

Dennis spent more than 30 years volunteering. He assisted his wife Kathy with the Miss Clawson Pageant. He and Kathy also volunteered and supported the Michigan Color Guard Circuit for 25 years. In 2010 both were inducted into the MCGC Hall of Fame. He enjoyed his many years as a cub master with the boy scouts. As a member of the Prince of Glory Church, he helped establish and run a volunteer effort to support Habitat for Humanity. He also involved his children in helping build houses throughout the years for that charity.

He appreciated it when someone recognized and thanked him for his service. His response was always, "Thank you, and proud to have served".

In Dennis' honor please take a moment to thank a service member for their service and dedication to this country.

Visitation will take place at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks, Clawson, Saturday, January 31, 2026, 3-8pm. The Funeral Service will be at the funeral home Sunday, February 1, 2026, at 2pm. Reception to follow. Committal services will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial donations appreciated to Folds of Honor Foundation or Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Family flowers are being arranged via Maple Lane Florist.

I met Dennis when we were both working part time at Suburban floral delivery. Part time more than often was 40 hours a week!!! Didn´t matter though, we both enjoyed the satisfaction , the great feeling that we were delivering happiness wrapped in colorful paper. We were given the opportunity to be a part of someone´s happy moments or sad moments, moments that may have been, a birthday, anniversary, the birth of a child, a promotion, just so many good sometimes bad times. Dennis embraced those moments. He spent those extra few moments with the recipients of those flowers, not to pry, but to celebrate or comfort them. We talked about so many things during the time we worked together that I felt like I had known him forever. We shared the same passion for programs that created opportunities for special needs kids and their families. My take on Dennis? A selfless human being, a caring deeply individual that put everyone else first and that in its own right was enough satisfaction for himself. Dennis I thank you for your service and I thank you for the time we were able to be friends. Godspeed.
