Dennis Harwood Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Viegut Funeral Home on Mar. 4, 2026.
Dennis Ross Harwood passed away peacefully in his sleep on Feb. 27, 2026. He was born to Norval (Bus) and Marjorie Bush Harwood on March 25,1939 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was later joined by two brothers, Dale (Darlene) and Dana. Growing up in Tooele, Utah, he became an avid sportsman, a talented musician and learned the meaning of hard work. He was blessed with a witty sense of humor and was a great storyteller.

He was an excellent student. His outgoing personality made him a favorite of teachers, friends and family. He was captain of the baseball team and was voted in as Student Body President of Tooele High. He also received many honors for playing the trumpet as well as being the drum major for the high school band. His love of music continued throughout his life.

Dennis married Sheila Evans, and they had four children together, Heidi, Holli, Sean and Carl. Dennis spent a lot of time in their early years teaching them to love the great outdoors and enjoy their childhoods. They lived in Utah and Montana. Sheila and Dennis were later divorced.

Dennis married Barbara Stone, and they had two daughters together, Kacie (Aaron) and Keri. Barbara had 4 children prior to their marriage: Jolene, Buddy, Terri Lyn, and Michelle. They made their home in Colorado and Dennis dedicated his life sustaining their family. His choice of jobs always involved remodeling and much of his career was spent traveling all over the country renovating or decorating JC Penney's stores. He was very precise in his craft. He took pride in instructing people how to paint, wallpaper, or carpet, and would often cringe at remodel debacles!

Dennis is survived by five of his children, three stepchildren, and his brother, Dale. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Harwood, his daughter, Keri, his brother, Dana, his parents and his stepson, Buddy. His legacy is one of kindness, gentleness and always seeing the bright side of life.

The family would like to thank Kacie and Aaron Reed for their unwavering support and love. We would also like to thank the staff at Lemay Avenue Health and Rehabilitation in Fort Collins. They made our dad's last years happy, peaceful, and worthwhile. Dennis is survived by his loving children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and family members who will miss him.

We plan to hold celebrations of life to honor Dennis in both Colorado and Utah. The Colorado celebration will take place on March 27 at Lemay Avenue Health and Rehabilitation in Fort Collins at 2:00 p.m.

A second celebration of life will be held later in the summer in Utah, with interment at the Tooele Cemetery

My dad was one of the most solid rocks in my life. He was my step father and was in my life since I was 1 so step dad is not how I looked at him. His love of the outdoors was shown to me at a very early age from camping and fishing in red feather in the family camper. I have so many great childhood memories of my dad. The marriage my mom and dad had was amazing to me. He loved my mom and thanks to that love he had for her he took on 4 step kids and myself 2 sisters and my brother. He never made me feel like I didn't belong to him. We never went without anything growing up he worked very hard to make sure all 6 of us had everything from new school clothes to the most amazing Christmas mornings. Thaks dad for all those weekend breakfasts of sticky potatoes, for the love of music especially the moody blues and just being a great dad. Growing up we could not have asked for more. Noodle butt was the nickname you gave me (I believe that was a cb handle name and Noodles just stuck. I love you dad and I will miss you. It does give me relief knowing your walking again pain free, walking LOL your running around with mom asking her for those smooches Michelle ( aka Noodle Butt)
