Dennis Lee Hobbs, age 76, passed away on January 1, 2025, at Cox Medical Center South. Dennis was born to Barry and Bernice Hobbs on March 26, 1948, in Ozark, MO. He was known by many and loved by most, especially his family.
He was raised on a farm in Ebenezer, Missouri and attended Willard Schools. Following high school, he earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Southwest Missouri State University where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity.
Dennis started his professional career working as a field rep for the Missouri Farm Bureau and worked as Director of Marketing for both Tindall Mills and Tracker Marine. But his true passion was politics, and he entered this realm while serving as an aide to Missouri Congressman Gene Taylor. He subsequently served as Greene County Clerk and helped to develop the Greene County Archives which are still in place today.
Following his professional career, Dennis remained very active in politics. He was not shy about voicing his opinions and was a lifelong active member of the Republican Party. He advised/managed campaigns for many and helped many office holders succeed in their campaigns. He was a known influence on the political environment in the Ozarks.
Another of his passions was restoring collectible vintage trucks. He was a founding board member of the Mother Roadster Foundation the Glidewell Gliders.
Dennis loved making new friends. His wife called him the "great networker". If you had a problem; he knew someone he could connect you with to solve it. He was the ultimate people person.
Dennis was united in marriage to Paula (Murphy) Hobbs on June 8, 1968, in Springfield, Missouri at High Street Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Barry Hobbs, his mother, Bernice Hobbs, and a brother Joe Hobbs. He is survived by his spouse of 56 years, Paula Hobbs, his three children; Brooke Hobbs, Brad Hobbs, and Ryan Hobbs; four siblings Patsy Emerson, Sherry Davis, Jimmy Hobbs, and Lisa Peavler, plus their spouses, and more friends than can be mentioned. Old school chums, car guys, fishing buddies, and new friends he made along the way- you know who you are.
A visitation for Dennis will be held on Wednesday, January 8th, 2025, from 11:00-1:00, at Greenlawn East Funeral Home in Springfield, Missouri followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM. Burial will Immediately follow at Greenlawn North Memorial Gardens located in Springfield, Missouri.
We will leave you with a quote from Dennis. He used to say, "It's been good being me." Our hearts are broken, but we know we will see him again someday.
