Dennis L Hughes

Dennis Lee Hughes, born July 1, 1962, in Nowata, Oklahoma, passed away on August 19, 2025, at the age of 63. He was the beloved son of Orville Lee Hughes Jr. and Irene (Briggle) Hughes. Dennis was a proud graduate of Nowata High School, Class of 1980. After high school, he held a variety of jobs that reflected his strong work ethic and adaptability. He worked in the oilfields as a floor hand and also spent time at Nowata Printing. He is survived by his three daughters: Crystal Barnett (Hansel) of Oklahoma City, Candie Hughes of Nowata, and Jeri Bierbrodt of Great Bend, Kansas. Dennis also leaves behind four cherished grandchildren: Evin Schonherr, Alexius Jenkins, Ethan Brown, and Breanna Brown; as well as four beloved adopted grandchildren: Persephone, Tobias, Atticus, and Amethyst Barnett. Dennis will also be missed by many extended family members, including numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Irene Hughes; his grandparents, Orville Lee Hughes Sr. and Evelyn Hughes, George Briggle and Bonnie Briggle; his brother, George Hughes; and an infant sister. Dennis will be remembered for his quiet strength, his devotion to his family, and the deep roots he maintained in his hometown of Nowata. He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, love, and connection that will not be forgotten.
