Dennis Lee King, 85, of Davenport, IA, peacefully passed away on Thursday, August 21st, at Silvercrest Assisted Living Facility, in Davenport, IA, surrounded by loved ones.

Dennis was born on August 3, 1940, in Davenport, IA, the son of Gearld Sr. and Gertrude (Proksch) King.

Dennis graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1958. Dennis lived in several different places throughout his life including Bettendorf and Sioux City.

Dennis and Janet were united in marriage on December 18, 1982, celebrating 43 years of marriage.

Dennis retired in 2005 from Group O in Davenport as a machine operator, having worked for several printing companies throughout his employment career including Augustana College Book Concern, Rock Island, IL; Wagner Printers in Davenport, IA; and Anderson Brothers, Sioux City, IA.

Dennis was an avid golfer and loved playing different courses wherever he travelled. Dennis actually made a hole-in-one at Duck Creek Golf Course, hole #8. Dennis loved woodworking, making many different pieces of furniture for family and friends to enjoy. In his later years, Dennis was active at Casi in Davenport, IA, enjoying many activities and friendships.

Dennis was also an all-around handy man who loved doing projects around their home and helping other family members with projects around their house. Dennis, together with his wife, Janet, loved to travel. Dennis also loved to hunt deer, elk, and other game. Dennis also had a great sense of humor and loved making people laugh.

A celebration of life will be held at a later time. Inurnment will also take place at a later time.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Janet; daughters: Jodie King, Raleigh, North Carolina; Lorie (David) Rupp, Raleigh, North Carolina; brother, Jerry (Debbie), Davenport, IA; step-children; Mitch (Teresa) Dahlin, New Liberty, IA; Jeffrey (Jani) Dahlin, Mason City, IA; Mark (Connie) Dahlin, Center Point, IA; Jody (Nick) Scott, Davenport, IA. 14 Grandchildren; 10 Great-grandchildren.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents.

The family greatly appreciated all the extraordinary care given to Dennis by the staff of Silvercrest Assisted Living Facility and St. Croix Hospice.
