Dennis Machovsky Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bittner Funeral Chapel - Mitchell on Feb. 11, 2025.
Dennis Machovsky, 92, of Mitchell, SD, passed away Monday, February 10, 2025, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, March 7, at Bittner Funeral Chapel, with visitation one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be at Servicemen's Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell.
Dennis Daniel Machovsky was born August 3, 1932, to Adolph and Agnes (Pohanka) Machovsky in Fordville, ND. Dennis attended school until the 8th grade. During his young years, he worked on the potato farms and feed at Ligren Farms. He told stories of picking potatoes with the then-unknown "Lawerence Welk." That was by far his favorite story. He also was a truck driver and delivered potatoes and feed.
Dennis was drafted on March 12, 1953, in Fargo, ND. He then reported to Fort Leonard Wood, MO. He then served in the Korean War. He built airplane hangars, bridges, and roads. He also helped load the fighter planes. Dennis was honorably discharged on March 11, 1955.
At a dance in Bachelor's Grove McCanna, ND, Dennis met his wife, Bernice Hoverson. They were married on March 11, 1956, at Elk Valley Lutheran Church in McCanna, ND. To this union, four children were born, Lynn, Loren, Debbie, and Shelly.
Dennis started work as an auto mechanic and later worked as a sewer and water contractor at Sheesley's Plumbing & Heating in Mitchell. After Sheesley's, he started driving semi-truck until the age of 80.
Dennis's retirement consisted of hunting, fishing, and playing cards with friends. He also enjoyed weekly visits from his four-legged friend, Remi.
Dennis is survived by his children, Lynn Machovsky of Rapid City, Loren Machovsky of Mitchell, Debbie (Darryl) Buck of Mitchell, Shelly (Ronnie) Riggs of Mitchell, and Bobby Machovsky (Katie) of MO; former wife, Bernice Machovsky; brothers, Donnie of Grafton, ND, Bennie of St. Cloud, MN, and Alan of Grand Forks, ND; sisters, Janet of Grand Forks, ND, and Darlene of Kent, WA; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and his special four-legged friend, Remi.
He is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jeremy Machovsky; great-granddaughter, Maizie Ihnen; brothers, Norman and Richard; and sisters, Ruth and Henrietta.
