Dennis J. Mahoney

Yorkville, NY: Mr. Dennis J. Mahoney, 84, of Yorkville, passed away peacefully, Friday, September 12, 2025, at the Wynn Hospital in Utica.

He was born in Utica, NY, November 16, 1940, a son of the late James M. and Helen J. (Dziok) Mahoney. Dennis was raised in Utica.

Dennis began work for the Central Association for The Blind and Visually Impaired at the age of twenty and retired at the age of eighty. Over the years, he enjoyed membership with the Utica Lions Club, the Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, the Rainbow Sportsman Club, the Yorkville Fire Department as a social member, and the Whitestown Vets. Dennis was a devout catholic who enjoyed volunteering at many occasions at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church in Utica, including the German Picnic and as a member of the the church choir. Dennis' favorite times were spent with his family at any occasion. A big part of his life was hanging around with his buddy "Stash", who took him everywhere; picnics, sporting events, softball games were especially enjoyable (The Oriskany Garage Wreckers), as well as, basketball games for the Potsdam Bears.

He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Michael A. and Cynthia A. Mahoney of Yorkville, NY, with whom he resided for more than twenty-seven years; a sister-in-law, Geraldine Mahoney of SC; nieces, and nephews, Timothy and Diana Mahoney, Laurie and Kevin Zdyb, Cheryl Mahoney, Jamie Mahoney, Michael and Erika Mahoney, Jason and Grace Mahoney, Christopher and Danielle Mahoney, and Jonathan Mahoney; many great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and extended family members, including Joseph and Patricia Gadziala; and his dog, Eli. He was preceded in death by a brother, James E. Mahoney; a niece Cindy Mahoney; and his best friend, Stanley "Stash" Babiarz.

Calling hours will be held on Friday afternoon, September 19, 2025, at Wolanin Funeral Home, 266 Main Street, New York Mills, NY, from 5-7. Mr. Mahoney's funeral and celebration of life will commence on Saturday morning, September 20, 2025, at 10:30, at Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish, at the Our Lady of the Rosary Campus, 1736 Burrstone Road, New Hartford, NY.

The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Wynn Hospital for the care and compassion that was displayed to Dennis and his family throughout this very difficult time.
