Dennis L. McClure, 79, of Lomontville, NY, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY. He was born on January 7, 1945 in White Plains, NY, son of the late Herbert and Cornelia (Lewis) McClure. Dennis was married to his loving wife of 58 years, Jane (Leinpinsel) McClure, they wed on August 27th, 1966.
He was a graduate of Valhalla High School in North White Plains, NY, and later received his Bachelor’s Degree in European History from SUNY Albany and two Master’s Degrees from SUNY New Paltz, one of which was in Asian Studies. He later taught History and Social Studies for 32 years at Onteora High School.
Dennis led numerous trips to China for his students and others. After retirement, he enjoyed restoring houses, and traveling (he and Jane visited all 7 continents). He was a former member of the Lomontville Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, Jane McClure of Lomontville, NY, his daughters, Patricia Exman and her husband Peter of Palm Coast, FL, and Heather Lewis of Lewisburg, PA, his grandchildren, Jill Tedlock, Paul Exman, Lee Exman, Sean Lewis, Connor Lewis, and Hannah Lewis, and his brother, Bruce Cornelius McClure, as well as multiple great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his brothers, Herbert & George McClure, and his son-in-law, John P. Lewis.
Arrangements entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401, where family and friends may visit on Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 2pm to 4pm. A Celebration of Life will begin at 4pm during which attendees will be able to share a memory of Dennis if they wish.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Lomontville Fire Department, 2394 Hurley Mountain Road, Kingston, NY 12401 or First Baptist Church Food Pantry, Box 604, 492 Main Street, Cobleskill, NY 12043 or a charity of your choice in his honor.
