Ellen Deirdre Cooley, 55, passed away on February 21, 2025 at her home in Elmsford, New York. She was born on January 14, 1970 in Tarrytown, New York to Kathryn (Varriale) Cooley and the late Leo Patrick Cooley. She grew up in Tarrytown and as a child, she enjoyed summer vacations camping with her family in an Airstream trailer in Wells-Moody, Maine. As an adult, she was always happiest in the summertime at the beach on family trips to Montauk, New York.
Ellen was a graduate of Valhalla High School, Class of 1988. She attended Marymount College in Tarrytown, New York, and completed her Bachelor’s at Fordham University in White Plains, New York in 2013 with a degree in Liberal Arts. She worked part-time at the Westchester Independent Living Center (WILC) in White Plains, an organization that supports people with disabilities. She found her job very fulfilling.
Ellen enjoyed many things, particularly art, music and going for walks. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and doing jigsaw puzzles with her mother.
Along with her beloved mother Kathryn Cooley, Ellen is survived by her two brothers: Stephen Cooley and his wife Kaori Sakaguchi; Lawrence Cooley and his companion Elizabeth Widulski. She is also survived by her niece Lisa Cooley; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and her companion Mario Dinobile. She will be dearly missed.
Her Family will receive Friends on Thursday, February 27th from 4-8PM at the HAWTHORNE FUNERAL HOME, 21 W. Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10AM, Friday, February 28th at the Holy Name of Jesus Church, 2 Broadway, Valhalla, New York, followed by interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 W. Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne.
