Dennis James Mlcak

Dennis James Mlcak passed away on March 23, 2024, at the age of eighty-eight. He was born in Sealy, Texas, to John and Lillie Machala Mlcak. He grew up on a farm south of Sealy in the Mixville area.
Dennis attended Sealy High School, where he met his sweetheart, Edith Pavlicek. He graduated from Sealy High School in 1954 and earned an associate degree from Wharton County Junior College in 1956. Dennis and Edith were married on November 9, 1958, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Frydek. They moved to Houston where their three daughters were born. Dennis worked for the Texas Highway Department (now TxDOT) where he was a Civil Engineer and retired after 37 years of service. They moved back to Frydek in 1995.
He served in the United States Army Reserve and was honorably discharged in 1964.
On the weekends, Dennis played his trumpet with the various local bands. He started out at an early age with the Mlcak Band made up of his father, uncles, brothers, and cousins. Later, he played at numerous dances in small towns and around Houston. He was also a member of the Austin County Chorale for six seasons.
He loved to spend time outdoors where he could often be found on his tractor or among his cattle. Dennis also enjoyed working with his hands. No matter whether it was mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or carpentry-related if it was broken, he could fix it.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife Edith Mlcak of sixty-five years. Daughters Deanna Arnold (Robert), Roxane Spence (Kenneth), and Audrey Rossi (Michael). Grandsons Preston Arnold (Kristin), Pierce Arnold, Nicholas Rossi (Mia), and Nathan Rossi. Great-granddaughter Clara Arnold. Step-grandsons Michael Spence (Tamra), Steven Spence (Alicia), and Brian Spence (Dawn).
He will also be missed by his brothers Clem Mlcak (Bina) and Johnny Mlcak (Elaine) and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, John and Lillie Mlcak, and sister Florence Mlcak and husband Fred.
The family extends a heartfelt thanks to the various friends and family who lent a hand when they saw a need, especially his sister-in-law, Mildred Ondruch. Also, a sincere thanks for all the kindness, love, and support shown during our time of loss.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Frydek.
