Dennis L. Rakowski, age 70, U.S. Marine Corps veteran 1972-1976, a resident of Naperville, IL since 1992, formerly of Dixon, IL, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 12, 2024, in Lyndon Station, WI. He was born October 10, 1953, in Dixon, IL.
Beloved husband of Donna Rakowski (nee Newcomer), whom he married November 22, 1972, loving father of Mindy Mierwinski of Yorkville, IL, Sarah (Andy) Wahl of Montgomery, IL and Jennifer (JT) Malone of Plano, IL, adored Papa of Matthew (19) and Madeline (15); Abby (23), Cassie (21), Isabel (17) and Hannah (15); Lily (5) and Nolan (3), devoted son of the late John and Lucille (nee Zimmerman) Rakowski, brother of Joe (Yvonne) Rakowski and the late Chet (Edna) Rakowski, brother-in-law of Jane (the late Jim) Bailey of Dixon, IL, Sue (Ed) Saunders of Dixon, IL and the late Betty (Mark) Ackerman, uncle, great-uncle and friend of many. Dennis will be missed by LuBear, his Snoodle (poodle and schnauzer crossbreed).
Dennis grew up in Dixon, IL and was a 1972 graduate of Dixon High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in August 1972, served four years, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant.
Dennis was employed as a mechanic with Kraft General Foods for 25 years, retiring in 2016. He enjoyed fishing, working and keeping busy, building things with hands, and, most of all, spending time with family.
Military funeral honors will be rendered on Friday, April 19, 2024, 4:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, IL 60540 by the U.S. Marine Corps and Naperville Honor Guard.
Visitation will follow Friday, 4:30-8:00 PM in the funeral home.
Interment will be private.
