Gerald Gruber Obituary

In Loving Memory
May 4, 1937 – January 5, 2026

Jerry Gruber, 88, of McLean, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, January 5, 2026.
Born in Chicago, on the south side to Leo and Bernice Wagner Gruber. Jerry graduated from Dixon High School in 1955 and went on to earn a BA from Depauw University and an MBA from the University of Chicago. After graduating from the University of Chicago in 1961, he dedicated the 35 years working as a CPA in various operational and executive roles in the Chicago area, Denver, Colorado, and McLean, Virginia.
Jerry was known for his enthusiasm for his family, friends, and always ready for a beer – best enjoyed together. Jerry grew up with a natural love of these assorted favorite things: his two favorite sports teams - the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bears, a passion for historical and biographical reading, skiing deep powder through the trees in Steamboat and Vail, a game of tennis, a civilized political conversation and a competitive card game of Hearts.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Linda Asper Gruber; their children, Ingrid Gruber Atkinson and Christopher Hayes Gruber; their grandchildren, Grace Gruber, Lily Gruber, Alexis Porter, Olivia McCreary, Brennan Atkinson, Annika Marie Atkinson and Jerry's older brother, Jim Gruber.
A remembrance of Jerry's life will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 9 a.m. with a visitation at Money & King Funeral Home, 171 Maple Avenue West, Vienna, Virginia, a funeral service to follow at 11:30 a.m. at National Presbyterian Church, 4101 Nebraska Ave NW, Washington, DC and a reception afterwards. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either Chicago's Pacific Garden Mission (website is www.pgm.org), a Christian organization devoted to helping Chicago's homeless or the Lost and Found Donkey Rescue (website www.lostandfoundmd.org) in Germantown, Maryland dedicated to rescuing donkeys, equines and other animals from neglect, abuse and slaughter.

Dear Linda and Ingrid and Chris and family,
I was so sad to hear of the passing of Jerry. But I´m comforted knowing he´s now with Jesus and out of earthly pain and suffering. I have so many good memories of ski trips with him and your family. And I´m also comforted by the thought of him and my dad back together skiing steep and deep in heaven (there must be skiing in heaven!) May God´s Holy Spirit, the Great Comforter, uphold you at this difficult time.
Love, Anne Bronson McClary and family

May your hearts be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate Jerry's life well lived. Jerry and I were DePauw classmates and fraternity brothers. He is one of the few with whom I maintained contact. I live in Fort Collins, CO. While he and Linda lived in Castle Rock, we got together in our homes and else where (e.g., when he played tennis in FC and for skiing). Jerry is in the center of the Vail photo. On his left is Bob Sieben. I am on his right. Sieben and his friend to my right were on a San Francisco Ski Club trip. Jerry and I went up to Vail together to visit Sieben, a DPU fraternity brother.
