Mark Gruber Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Directors - Reese Chapel on Feb. 23, 2026.
Mark Kendall Gruber, 69, of Reese, passed away peacefully in his home after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, February 21, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, Mark's final moments were a testament to the life he lived-full of love, strength, and dedication. Born and raised in Reese, Mark's roots run deep in his community.

He was born December 28, 1956, in Bay City Michigan, son of Mary "Joyce" (Kendall) Gruber and the late Henry Gruber.

From his early education at Trinity Lutheran School to his graduation from Reese High School, Mark's life was woven with the threads of hard work and commitment. His passion for farming was not just a profession but a way of life that he embraced wholeheartedly. Mark's love for the land and the joy he found in working hand in hand with his family were the cornerstones of his existence. The family farm was not just a place of business but a home where memories were made, and legacies were built, especially after his sons joined him in the family business.

Family was the epicenter of Mark's world. He reveled in the time spent with his loved ones, not only in the fields but in every aspect of life. Farming might have been a main topic at the dinner table, but it was the laughter and stories shared that truly nourished them. Mark's role as a husband, father, and grandfather was one he held with the highest regard. His presence at games, family events, and simple everyday moments underscored his deep commitment to each family member.

On March 31, 1990, Mark married his beloved Sue Stahlbaum at Trinity Lutheran Church in Reese-a union that would flourish over 35 years. Together, they built a life filled with love, respect, and mutual support. Mark's gregarious nature extended beyond his family. He loved engaging in conversations with anyone he met, and he cherished the trips up north to the family cabin, where he could unwind and spend quality time with friends. He also enjoyed taking trips to tropical islands.

Mark's involvement in his community was profound. A long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Reese, he served on the board of trustees, contributing his wisdom and guidance. His civic engagement continued with his roles on the FSA Board and the township Water Board, where he worked tirelessly for the betterment of his neighbors and the land he so dearly loved.

Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Sue; his children and their spouses, Trevor (Abbey) Gruber and Chad (Kaitlyn) Gruber, both of Reese; and his adored 18-month-old grandson, Brooks Albert Gruber. Mark's legacy also lives on through his mother, Joyce Gruber; siblings, Tim (Paula) Gruber, Kay (Rick) Waters, and Karey (Ken) Prox, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of dear friends, especially Adriaan who helps on the family farm and whom Mark loved as one of his own sons.

In addition to his father, Mark was preceded in death by his sister, Kris Lynn Gruber

A memorial service to celebrate Mark's life will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 9858 North Street, Reese, MI, with Rev. Daniel Burhop officiating. Mark's family will welcome visitors at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Mark Kendall Gruber's life was a beacon of passion, friendliness, and thoughtfulness. His enduring spirit and the love he shared will continue to inspire all who were privileged to know him.
