Dennis Wayne Read, the son of Wilbur and Rosebud (Christian) Read, was born on December 9th, 1947 in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Eagle Grove, graduating with the "Class of 1966". While attending school he was a life guard, competitive swimmer and diver. After graduating he joined the U.S. Navy.

Dennis was united in marriage to Christine Van Langen in 1999 at Briggs Woods in Webster City Iowa. He had 3 children from a previous marriage, Christopher, Heather and Melissa.

Dennis's life was all about music. He played in several bands including: Insex, Bank Street Band, The Street Band and Lincoln Reed and the House Rockers. He enjoyed and played "Blue Eyed Soul" music. The Street Band was inducted in the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, 2 times. Dennis enjoyed golfing, reading, visiting with old classmates and most of all he was into music. He was very close to Jesus and he knew that he was in the hands of the Lord.

Dennis passed away on Wednesday, August 27th, with his wife by his side, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 78 years. Survivors include his wife, Christine; son, Christopher (Tara) Read of Houston Tx; daughters: Heather (Ross) Cook of Queensland, Australia and Melissa (Rob) Smith of Waterloo, Illinois; grandchildren: Paisley, Emma, Owen, Eli, Austin, twins: Alec and Isaac and Preston; bonus-children, Brandi (Wayne) Judkins, Kasey (Nassar) Abdelhadi and Holly Christian; bonus-grand-children: Tucker, Charlotte, Emma, Noel, Noah and Nate.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters: Beulah Miller and Jane Frazier.
