Our brother Den, grew up in Whittemore, Iowa. As a child he loved the Superman TV show and could be seen jumping off our front porch and flying around town in his Superman costume. He also had a weather station, probably a Santa Christmas gift, that he used to record the weather and typed into his "news letter" that he distributed to relatives and the town. He used an old mimeograph machine to print copies. These might include " who won a turkey at the Feather Party" or who has " high score in the bowling league" that week.
A Superman, weatherman, and journalist!
Den could start an engaging conversation with anyone, the person he sat next to at the clinic or someone he stood next to at the checkout at Menards! However, he didn´t like standing in line. Patience wasent his strong suit! I believe he left more than one full shopping cart and walked out.
He had a beautiful singing voice, the kind you wanted to sit in front of in church. He also was a good storyteller. He didn´t rush it, dragged it out, paused for effect, and kept you captive. He told a story of the day he was born on his most recent birthday. He had us all laughing!
Den could fix anything! He recently fixed 2 antique clocks, a cuckoo clock and an heirloom clock from our grandparents. He did beautiful carpentry (our dad was a carpenter), could do electrical, plumbing (didn´t like toilets), electronics, etc. If he didn´t know how, he researched it till he figured it out.
He was always ready to help his family or anyone and gave good advice.
A good man! A good brother!
We will miss him!
