Thomas "Tom" N. Roeber, Sr., 68, of Superior died November 13, 2025, at Aspirus St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth surrounded by his family.
Tom was born in
Superior, WI on November 21, 1956. At the age of 8 years old Tom discovered his first love that would last him his lifetime, Baseball. In 1965 Tom joined the Billings Park Chiefs Pee Wee baseball team. From 1965 through 1969 Tom would help hit and pitch his team to 3 championship games, taking home 2 championship titles. Baseball was Toms only focus until 1977.
In 1977 Tom's love for baseball was surpassed by a new love, Joanne Marie McGuirk. Tom and Joanne married in 1978 and would end up celebrating nearly 47 years of marriage before his passing. The old saying that actions speak louder than words is never more true than in the love Joanne showed Tom. She was the foundation he and their children stood upon. Her grace and compassion throughout the years allowed Tom to far exceed his own expectations in life. He loved her with all his heart.
Tom's love for baseball would suffer another setback, three to be exact. Tom and Joanne would go on to raise three children: Nina, Tommy II, and Johnny. Tom and Joanne succeeded in creating a childhood for their three children that Hollywood would be jealous of. Their home was always filled with family and friends and was always open to strangers, as long as they brought their own cooler. If the party went long enough you might have been able to catch a showing of Toms iconic "Happy Feet". A dance style that to this day has no match. We will miss his afternoons of barbeque cooking followed by an evening of drinks and laughter, culminating in a competitive match of Wii bowling or golf.
Tom's wife and children may have held the top spot in his heart for most of his life, but baseball was never far behind. Tom made a name for himself as one of the most formidable softball pitchers in the area. He played for countless teams and helped them bring home numerous championships. Tom was humble about his achievements in the sport and never spoke about them, but he couldn't silence the admiration of his teammates and opponents. For anyone that played with or against Tom, he will always be remembered as a pitching legend.
Tom was also an avid sports fan and spent many years watching and cheering on his favorite football teams. Out of all the teams he followed, Badgers, NDSU, Mizzou, nothing came close to his love for the Green Bay Packers. It was almost guaranteed that if you saw Tom out on the town, he would be wearing a Packers shirt or jacket and drinking a cold Pabst Blue Ribbon.
Tom will be missed by many people. Far too many to name, but along with his grandchildren, children, and wife he will be missed greatly by his brothers, Chauncey and John. They were never far apart and the piles of photos over the last 68 years is proof. It is hard to find a picture of Tom without them in it. Until we all meet again, I will end this the way he would have wanted…… Go Pack Go!
A Celebration of Tom's Life will be held on Monday December 22nd from 3:00 to 5:00p.m. with a time of remembrance at 4:00, at Downs Life Celebration Center 1902 N 34th St., Superior.
