Dennis Allen Schmidt

Dennis Allen Schmidt, age 83, of Alma passed away Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Arbor Grove Assisted Living. He was born on December 31, 1941, in Niles, Michigan the son of Otto and Mary Ellen (Roher) Schmidt. Dennis proudly served his country in the United States Army from June 13, 1960, until his honorable discharge on May 25, 1963. He married Claudia Stennes on November 27, 1965, a blessed union of nearly 60 years.
Dennis worked for over 20 years for GTE as an electrician before retiring from Dial-A-Ride in 2021. He was a faithful member of the Alma Church of God, where he volunteered at His Place. He served as a Big Brother with Big Brothers Big Sisters for several years and was an avid sports fan, especially cheering on his Michigan teams. Dennis was a railroad enthusiast his entire life and enjoyed photographing trains and was a member of several railroad groups.
Dennis is survived by his wife Claudia; children Carol (Steve) Radkey, Lou (Michael) Allen, Dennis (Rayna) Schmidt; grandchildren Joshua (Ashley) Topper, Nathan (Chanda) Topper, Angel (Logan) White, Jasminerae (Emilio) Waltz, James (Kelsea) Gilson; and great-grandchildren Sierra, Isabell, Robin, Evelyn, Amelia, Andres.
He was preceded in death by his father Otto and step-mother Frances Schmidt; his mother Mary Ellen; brother Ray Schmidt; and an infant great-grandson Damian.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 28, 2025, at 11 am at the Alma Church of God. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Alma. Visitation will be held on Friday from 10 am until the time of services at the church. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Alma Church of God. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home, Alma.
