Dennis Smith, a dedicated systems analyst first at Central Trust Banking Company, and then Electronic Data Systems and Union Central Life Insurance, and later at Argosy Casino in Lawrenceburg, passed away on March 18, 2024, at the age of 70, in Cincinnati, OH. Born in Zanesville, OH, on January 17, 1954, Dennis spent his life enriching the lives of those around him with his love for sports, photography, collections, and cherished family moments.
When Dennis was younger, he played little league baseball and was a Boy Scout. He also played trombone in the band during his time at Philo High School and went to band camp and church camp in the summers.
Dennis's life was marked by a love for golfing- he was a professional Putt Putt golfer- and bowling. He was a devoted Cincinnati Reds fan, and an amateur photographer capturing life's timeless moments. His eclectic interests in collecting baseball cards, stamps, coins, and matchbooks reflected his passion for preserving memories. One year he rode his bike 100 miles from Columbus to Portsmouth. Engaging in fantasy football and baseball, reveling in model trains, and the thrill of playing pinball, Dennis's enthusiasm for life was infectious.
In his leisure moments, you could find him watching sports and meticulously keeping records of statistics, a true testament to his analytical mind. However, Dennis always found joy in sharing his hobbies, making model cars and trains, building legos with his children and grandchildren, and reveling in the world of mystery novels.
Dennis's commitment to the community and family was evident in his role as the treasurer for the golf and bowling leagues and the boy scouts. Married to his beloved wife Jeanine for 42 years, they began their journey at Bowling Green State University where they first met. Together, they shared countless memories, embraced new adventures, and nurtured a beautiful family with sons Andrew and Timothy, and cherished grandchildren Alex and Ellie.
A member of the Mt. Healthy United Methodist Church, Dennis found solace and community in his faith. His dedication to service extended beyond his workplace as he supported various community activities and events.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Jeanine Smith; sons, Timothy Smith and Andrew (Amelia) Smith; grandchildren, Alex Smith and Ellie Smith; nephew Dustin Dailey; niece, Katrina (Kyle) Tabor; and great nieces, Addison Tabor and Olivia Tabor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Mary (Williams) Smith, and sister, Cindy Dailey.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 25, 2024 from 12:30pm-1:30pm at the Arlington Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 2155 Compton Road, Cincinnati, OH 45231 (FOLLOW THE BLUE LINE). A funeral service will follow visitation at 1:30pm at the funeral home. Entombment will take place at 2:30pm at the Arlington Memorial Gardens Lakeside Mausoleum, 2145 Compton Road, Cincinnati, OH 45231.
